Independent evidence for Pacific markets
Shopper insights and consumer behaviour analysis
What are shoppers buying, what changes, and what can the available evidence explain?
Patternfield Intelligence helps brands, suppliers and retailers frame consumer behaviour questions around observable purchase patterns. For Pacific markets, the starting point is the commercial decision and the evidence that is available and permitted, rather than an assumption that every market has a complete shopper panel.
Questions worth investigating
Why has repeat purchase changed? Are shoppers buying less often, choosing a different pack or switching products? Is a promotion attracting trial, changing basket composition or simply bringing purchases forward?
We agree which of these questions the records can support before analysis begins. An observed basket can suggest a shopping mission; it does not reveal a person’s stated intentions, motivations or attitudes.
What shopper evidence can support
Product, basket, store, price and promotion records can help describe purchasing patterns and the context around them. Repeat purchase and switching analysis require suitable longitudinal evidence and permission to use it. Aggregate store sales alone cannot identify individual repeat buyers.
We review coverage, product definitions, missing records and changes in availability. Where the evidence is incomplete, the scope may need to narrow to category or store patterns rather than individual shopper behaviour.
From analysis to a decision
A bespoke brief might examine trial and repeat signals, basket relationships, shopping missions or differences between stores and formats. The resulting report connects findings, confidence and commercial implications to a defined decision about range, promotion, store priorities or a further test.
Observations, inferences and estimates are labelled separately. A pattern is not proof of a consumer’s reason for buying, and association does not establish a campaign effect. Insufficient evidence is a valid result.
Start with the question
Bring the decision, market, category and time period you have in mind, together with a description of the data you are authorised to use. A complete research brief is not needed for an initial conversation. We can discuss feasibility, gaps and a proportionate scope before agreeing an engagement.
