Patternfield INTELLIGENCE 2027 — The Retail Intelligence Portfolio cover

Retail data exists.
Connected intelligence
often does not.

A sales change is a starting point. It is not yet an explanation.

Evidence is fragmented across retailers, stores and formats, from transactions and product hierarchies to price, promotion and campaign execution.

Built for Pacific markets with differing levels of data maturity, we connect those signals to produce useful evidence where one clean source rarely tells the whole story.

Our products

Start with the decision.
Build the evidence around it.

Two current commercial products.
A defined question. A clear scope.
An honest boundary on the claim.

01Measurement & Effectiveness

PatternfieldMeasure

Did the intervention
make a difference?

Evaluate a defined campaign, promotion or retail intervention against an approved measurement plan.

  • Baseline and comparison design
  • Observed units, sales and value
  • Incremental estimates where supported
  • Execution, availability and pricing context
  • Uncertainty and recommended next action

Works independently, with AisleWise campaigns or with another measurable retail intervention.

02Bespoke & Strategic Intelligence

PatternfieldIntelligence

What is happening,
and what deserves action?

Answer a consequential commercial question using the most relevant available evidence.

  • Sources of category growth
  • Store and format performance gaps
  • Trial, repeat and switching signals
  • Basket relationships and promotion response
  • Emerging opportunities worth testing

A bespoke scope, shaped by the question and the evidence available.

Designed to create and measure defined consumer behaviour through approved incentives, eligibility and measurement structures.

Launch depends on consumer participation, consent, identity, fraud controls, reward-ledger and redemption infrastructure being operational. Our current commercial focus is Measure and Intelligence.

What we can examine

The patterns behind
retail performance.

Relevant evidence, connected where
data is available and permitted.

A shopper comparing two packaged products beside the shelf and price labels.
Choice happens at the shelf.

Product. Basket. Store.
Price. Promotion. Campaign.

Range, price and availability help explain the choice. Longitudinal shopper evidence is used only where permissioned.

01

Store performance

Understand where performance changed, where it did not, and whether apparent differences survive a credible comparison.

02

Shopper behaviour & missions

Examine the apparent purpose represented in observed baskets and how performance varies by mission. Mission is inferred behaviour, not declared intent.

03

Category analysis

Place focal-product movement in the wider category, with price, promotion, range and stock context. Examine trial, repeat and switching where the evidence supports them.

04

Basket relationships

Identify credible co-purchase and cross-category relationships to inform merchandising, range, activation and follow-on testing.

05

Promotion response

Separate purchasing under promotion from behavioural change. Estimate incremental response only where a defensible counterfactual exists.

06

Merchandising & campaign measurement

Connect verified treatment, outcome data and operating context. Estimate what changed because of an intervention only when the evidence supports that claim.

07

Opportunities & anomalies

Separate persistent commercial opportunities from one-off spikes, data issues, stockouts and other misleading patterns.

Our approach

Evidence
before promise.

The strength of a claim should follow the strength of the evidence.

We separate what was observed from what was inferred, estimated or causally supported. The distinction changes what you should do next.

Observed

What the available records show happened.

Inferred

An interpretation of a pattern, with assumptions made explicit.

Estimated

A model or comparison-based result, with uncertainty attached.

Causally supported

An effect claim supported by the study design and its diagnostics.

How we describe the evidence
Observed
A descriptive result.
Directional
An association consistent with an effect.
Comparative
A credible comparison supports estimated incrementality.
Strong Comparative
Quasi-experimental evidence with strong diagnostics.
Experimental
Controlled or randomised evidence.

Sometimes the most valuable
recommendation is “do not scale.”

Independent analysis can say “no detectable effect”, “insufficient evidence” or “unresolved”, including when the result challenges a campaign.

Permissioned where required. Evidence-bounded by design. Uncertainty is reported; insufficient evidence is a valid outcome.

From question to decision

A clear path
through the evidence.

We agree the question, scope and claim
boundaries before the analysis begins.

What you receive

Decision instruments,
not data dumps.

Patternfield reports connect executive findings, evidence-supported analysis and commercial implications to the decision at hand.

The format and depth follow the engagement. Supporting analytical visuals, methods and measurement detail are included where they help the decision.

Illustrative structure · tailored to the brief

Start with your question

Understand the shopper.
Test the explanation.

For brand, category and commercial teams deciding what to change, measure or investigate.

Shopper insights

Why are trial, repeat purchase or basket patterns changing? Explore what consumer behaviour evidence can support.

Category analysis

Why did category or store performance change? Examine price, promotion, range and availability context.

Merchandising measurement

Did a display, promotion or in-store intervention make a difference? Start with execution and a credible comparison.

Consequential decisions.

For businesses that need a clearer
view of what happens in retail.

Store and category performance, basket relationships, range decisions and supplier-funded activity.

02

Brands, suppliers & distributors

Launches, promotions, trial and repeat signals, store prioritisation and campaign effectiveness.

03

Investors & commercial decision-makers

Market and network dynamics, commercial diligence and strategic questions that warrant further testing.

04

Media & activation partners

Execution evidence, store and category outcomes, and better design for the next retail intervention.

Patternfield + AisleWise

Distinct businesses.
Complementary roles.

AisleWise creates and operates physical retail media and in-store activation. Patternfield measures, interprets and explains retail behaviour.

Measure and Intelligence stand on their own commercial merits. When both businesses have a role, activation becomes a starting point for structured evidence and a clearer next decision.
